A Brief History of Malta
In the heart of the Mediterranean, just 60 miles south of Sicily, Malta, together with its sister islands of Gozo and Comino, has been a melting pot for many civilisations and cultures. The result is a fascinating place offering a great variety of delights to visitors.
The capital, Valletta, built by the Knights of St. John, is a magnificent fortified 16th century city, small enough to be explored on foot, while its famous Grand Harbour is best seen by boat. Malta’s almost biblical landscape is scattered with small towns and villages and everywhere there are churches. The varied coastline all washed by a warm clear sea, makes it a paradise for every form of watersport. Nearby Gozo, a more rural version of Malta, is just a 25 minute ferry journey away, while Comino’s famed Blue Lagoon, is a fascinating excursion by boat. As practically all Maltese speak English, there is no communication problem. Many other aspects of life also appeal.
